The Smiths – Girlfriend in a Coma
I’ve heard it referenced more than I’ve heard it recently. I didn’t remember how short it was. It’s got a nice lilt & bounce to it and wonderfully disaffected vocals by the infamous Morrisey. “I know, I know…” Quite a good one.
Note: Bonus points to anyone who noticed it was first posted as “Girlfriend in a Comma” – a completely different issue.
“Girlfriend in a Coma”/The Smiths. Dancing on the line between dark humor, camp and (feigned?) earnestness is a Morrissey specialty, and he pulls it off again here (regardless of whether said girlfriend will “pull through”). Or maybe they’re all kinda the same thing to him? Interesting arrangement has a vaguely baroque feel, especially with those strings. And so short! I guess he had to hurry back to her bedside.
“Girlfriend in a Coma” by The Smiths: a serious situation painted inside a rather bright cheery frame. Throws a left hook at you. Perhaps this was the point. Cool Song.
